It saddens me that Malaysia Airlines is hit again with yet another tragedy. It is very upsetting to know that innocent countries are caught in the crossfires of countries at war. This is definitely a violation of human rights.
However, although Malaysia is clearly a victim of this, I would think that Malaysians should be careful of what they sat regarding this matter. From the article ‘ “Of course there is anger. Why must this happen only to us (in) Malaysia? I really feel like beating that Russian, Vladimir Putin,” said Mohamad Shidee Mohamad Ghazali, 28, a welder with the state utility company Tenaga Nasional.’. Such comments would only further fan the flames of this conflict. In my opinion, Malaysia is at the mercy of Russia and Ukraine. The blackboxes containing all the evidence is in either Russia or Ukraine’s hands. Furthermore, Malaysia has to cooperate with Russia and Ukraine to carry out investigations.
It is only natural for Malaysia and the victims’ family to be in grief and to feel indignant. However, they must know that if Russia or Ukraine has the audacity to commit such a crime. They may not cooperate in investigations (like tamper evidence) and Malaysia definitely has a very large challenge in front of them.

I think that this episode has opened several other, bigger, issues that lie within the international arena. Even though on the surface, this episode seems to only concern Russia, Ukraine and Malaysia, but in reality, it led to the involvement of the West, the issue of terrorism and there has been greater caution about Russia and Putin’s intentions. The fact that Malaysia not only has to deal with a tempered site but also the hostile attitudes of the Russians, who are guarding the crime scene with armed weapons, definitely raises suspicions and questions. Not so much of a stand, but rather, I think it’s important to note how connected the world really is, and how the events of one country will inevitably impact another country.

To add on, I find that this incident definitely showed how interconnected the world is and how international relations can deteriorate or improve based on events happening globally. When a country gets involved in a controversial issue like this, she should be careful when making heavy statements. Everything that a country has got to comment on will definitely be treated with utter importance. Therefore I find that a country and her citizens should be more sensitive when commenting on such controversial issue as the consequences of each and every of their word can be larger than expected.

In view of the fact that this is the second plane related tragedy that Malaysia is hit with, I cannot help but feel sorry for our neighbor. I have to agree with Jia Hui though that there is a need for them to be mindful of their comments on the issue regardless of the immense grief that they must be feeling. We cannot forget that the plane being shot down by Russian or Ukrainian forces are after all still alleged allegations and we cannot fully be sure the reason why the plane was shot down. Efforts should be directed in helping the families of those affected to heal and move on rather than to hate on those involved.

There are two stands that i would like to take pertaining to this issue. This would be mainly involving the justification of Ukrainian forces intruding in the crash site of MH17.
In the case of Malaysia, it is in the interest of the Malaysian government to protect the basic rights of Malaysians who have regrettably lost their loved ones in this tragic incident. However, we cannot deny the fact that Flight MH17 had landed within Ukrainian territory and the Ukrainian ground forces are in complete control of the situation, making it difficult to prevent tampering of evidence within the crash site. Furthermore, it can also be argued that it is within Ukrainian territory is under the control of local forces and it is their responsibility to deal with incidents as such.
All in all, the protection of the crash site can be seen as a moral issue in the eyes of the victims of this incident however it seems less of a concern towards the Ukrainian government and military forces
